Abstract
Production technology and metal raw materials development cannot be separated from the use of welding technology. Joining by welding is one of the splicing methods that is widely used in the construction of steel buildings and construction of machinery. Another connection method used in metal joints is bolts and rivets. Welding technology, besides being able to be used to connect and cut metal, can also be used to change the mechanical properties of the material which can increase the hardness of the material and the tensile strength of the material. This study uses ST 42 steel material for SMAW welding. The result of this research, the greatest hardness value was obtained at the connection with a strong current of 70A and an electrode diameter of 3.2 mm with a value of 53.41 HRC. While the largest tensile test was obtained at the connection with a strong current of 90A with an electrode diameter of 3.2 mm with a maximum voltage value of 46.29 kg.f/mm².
