Abstract

Childhood is a developmental stage that is particularly vulnerable to psychological impacts, especially when children experience traumatic events such as natural disasters. One common response that emerges is trauma, which, if left unaddressed, can have long-term effects on a child’s psychological well-being. This study aims to examine the relationship between resilience and coping with trauma, with social support as a mediating variable among post-disaster children in Ponorogo. The research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method and mediation analysis techniques. Participants were Generation Alpha children (aged 9–12 years) affected by disasters in the Ponorogo region. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with JASP software and 10,000 bootstrapping resampling. The findings show that resilience has a positive and significant effect on coping with trauma. Additionally, social support also has a significant influence and partially mediates the relationship between resilience and trauma coping. Children with higher levels of resilience tend to have more positive perceptions of social support, which in turn enhances their ability to deal with trauma. These findings provide both theoretical and practical implications for the development of psychosocial interventions for post-disaster children, particularly by emphasizing the importance of strengthening internal capacities and supportive social environments
