Abstract

Loneliness was a subjective experience commonly encountered by early adult women when their need for emotional closeness was unmet. One psychological factor that contributed to loneliness is fearful-avoidant attachment, an insecure attachment style characterized by a desire for intimacy coupled with a fear of rejection. Additionally, the suboptimal presence of a father figure, or fatherlessness, is assumed to influence both the development of fearfulavoidant attachment and levels of loneliness. This study aims to analyze the relationship between fearful-avoidant attachment and loneliness among early adult women, with fatherlessness as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed using a purposive sampling technique involving 136 early adult women aged 18-25 years. Data were analyzed using mediation analysis with Model 4 of the PROCESS Macro by Andrew F. Hayes. The results indicate that fatherlessness significantly mediates the relationship between fearful-avoidant attachment and loneliness among early adult women.
