Abstract

For working mothers, especially those serving as civil servants, child-rearing becomes a complex challenge as they must balance the demands of work and family while often struggling to fulfill developmental tasks in line with their beliefs. This study aims to examine the relationship between work-family conflict, parenting self-efficacy, and parenting stress among working mothers who are civil servants in Surabaya. The research utilized a quantitative correlational method with a sample of 239 mothers employed as civil servants in a government department in Surabaya. Data collection instruments included three scales: the Parenting Stress Scale (α = 0.929), the Work Family Conflict Scale (α = 0.963), and the Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale (α = 0.967), all measured using a Likert scale. Regression analysis results revealed that work family conflict and parenting self-efficacy simultaneously correlated with parenting stress (F = 283.204) among working mothers who are civil servants in Surabaya. Work-family conflict showed a t-coefficient of 4.582, indicating a significant positive correlation between work-family conflict and parenting stress. This means that the higher the work-family conflict experienced by the mothers, the higher the parenting stress they encounter. Conversely, parenting self-efficacy showed a t-coefficient of 12.792, indicating a significant negative correlation between parenting self-efficacy and parenting stress. In other words, the higher the parenting self-efficacy possessed by the mothers, the lower the parenting stress they experience.
