Abstract

Generation Z, born between 1995 and 2010, lives in an era characterized by digitalization and globalization, providing them with easier access to various information, including suicidal ideations. This exposure increases the likelihood of imitating such behaviors. According to data released by the National Police (PUSIKNAS), as of early 2024 alone, 849 suicide cases have been handled. Throughout the year, a total of 852 individuals ended their lives by suicide. Most of the cases involved individuals aged 26-45 years, accounting for 263 cases. This study aims to identify the relationship between alexithymia and resilience with suicidal tendencies among Generation Z adolescents. A correlational quantitative approach was employed to examine the strength and direction of relationships between two or more variables. The study population comprised Generation Z adolescents aged 18-23 years who have experienced suicidal ideation or intent. Data collection utilized a Likert-scale-based psychometric measurement tool, which is widely used in survey research. The findings reveal a simultaneous effect of the independent variables, alexithymia (X1) and resilience (X2), on suicidal tendencies (Y), with an R-square value of 0.439 and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.01). Partial correlation analysis demonstrated that alexithymia yielded a t-score of 9.133 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Similarly, the partial correlation for resilience showed a t-score of -4.317 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Based on the findings and analysis, it can be concluded that a high level of alexithymia and low resilience are correlated with increased suicidal tendencies. Conversely, a low level of alexithymia and high resilience are associated with a decrease in suicidal tendencies.
