Abstract

Sebagian besar sudah banyak film dan drama yang diproduksi oleh Korea Selatan yang menceritakan tentang romansa, tetapi berbeda dengan drama ini yang menceritakan tentang kehidupan seseorang penyandang spektrum autism. Drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” adalah salah satu drama yang bertemakan inspirasi dan mengharukan didalam kehidupan seorang penyandang gangguan autism spektrum yang bekerja di firma hukum besar. Ia mempunya IQ tinggi sebesar 164, daya ingat yang luar biasa, dan cara berfikir yang kreatif, tetapi mempunyai EQ yang rendah dan keteramplan social yang buruk. Meskipun demikian, Ia merupakan pengacara terpintar di Korea Selatan dengan gangguan spectrum autism. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap tentang diskriminasi masyarakat terhadap penyandang autism spectrum disorder dalam drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi fenomena penyandang autism yang sering mendapatkan perlakuan diskriminasi oleh lingkungannya. Realita autism spectrum disorder digambarkan dalam drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” menjadi fokus penelitian ini. Drama akan dianalisis menggunakan teori semiotika John Fiske. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” pandangan masyarakat terhadap penyandang autisme ialah menganggap semua orang penyandang autisme tidak layak memiliki kehidupan seperti manusia pada umumnya. Masyarakat masih mendiskriminasi penyandang autisme di berbagai lingkungan seperti lingkungan sekolah, lingkungan sosial, dan lingkungan pekerjaan. Dalam drama ini penyandang autism spectrum disorder digambarkan sebagai sosok yang jenius dan memiliki rasa kemanusiaan yang tinggi. Penyandang autism spectrum disorder mampu memiliki tingkat kecerdasan yang tinggi jika dilakukan dengan terapi dan pelatihan yang tepat.
