Abstract

Cyberslacking behavior often occurs in the world of college. Cyberslacking is the misuse of internet access for non-academic activities during learning for personal purposes. The impacts of cyberslacking behavior include decreased motivation, exam scores, diverted attention, reduced understanding of the material, and can even trigger smartphone addiction. This study aims to test the relationship between academic stress and cyberslacking behavior in new students in the city of Surabaya. This study uses a quantitative research type using the correlational method. The data sampling technique uses the accidental sampling technique with a population of 341 new students. The data collection instrument uses an academic stress scale and a cyberslacking scale. The results of the Spearman rho analysis showed a positive relationship between academic stress and cyberslacking behavior, obtaining a score of 0.513 with a significance of 0.000 <0.05, which means that there is a positive relationship between academic stress and cyberslacking behavior, so the proposed hypothesis is accepted, meaning that the level of academic stress has an effect on cyberslacking behavior. This means that the higher the academic stress score, the higher the cyberslacking score, and vice versa, the lower the academic stress, the lower the cyberslacking behavior
