Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self awareness and altruism behavior, differences in their relationship based on gender, school status, and teacher status both permanent and honorary teachers. The research sample involved 367 participants who were members of the Surabaya teacher group community on social media selected by simple random sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in the study was the Self-Report Altruism Scale (SRA) altruism behavior scale by Rushton, J. P., Chrisjohn, R. D., & Fekken, G. C. (1981) adapted from Myers' theory of altruism and the self awareness scale by Arabsharhangi and Noroozi (2014) adapted from Goleman's theory of self awareness. Based on the results of the prerequisite test, the normality test of skewness and kurtosis was carried out with the results of the skewness score of variable y (altruism) was -0.379 and variable x (self awareness) was -0.093. The result of the kurtosis score of variable y (altruism) is -0.404 and variable x (self awareness) is -0.222. Linear test results with a significance value of 0.000 <0.05. The results of simple regression analysis obtained an R square score of 0.225 with a significance of p = 0.000 (p <0.05) means that there is a significant correlation between self awareness and altruism behavior. The results of the test of the relationship between self awareness and altruism in gender obtained p = 0.09068217 (p>0.05). The results of the test of the relationship between self awareness and altruism on teacher status obtained p = 0.01949351 (p <0.05) indicate that there is a significant differences between self awareness and altruism in the group of permanent teachers and honorary teachers. The results of the test of the relationship between selfawareness and altruism on school status obtained p = 0.65357441 (p>0.05).
