Abstract

This study focuses on the representation of the Male Gaze towards the character Joseline in the drama series "The Idol". Male Gaze is a dominant male perspective that depicts women as passive objects to satisfy the male gaze. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the series "The Idol" depicts the character Joseline from the perspective of the Male Gaze and how this reflects the dominance of patriarchal ideology. This study uses critical theory, namely Sara Mills critical discourse analysis. The method used is a qualitative approach with analysis of scenes and camera techniques in the series. The data analyzed include images and scenes from the series "The Idol" that depict the character Joseline in a sexually explicit and fragmentary manner. Data were collected through observation and visual analysis. The results of the study show that Joseline is often depicted as a weak and vulnerable sexual object, reinforcing the stereotype of women in patriarchal views. The series "The Idol" supports patriarchal ideology through the representation of Joseline's character, where the narrative is often controlled by male characters, especially Tedros. This study concludes that "The Idol" supports patriarchal ideology through the representation of Joseline's character. Recommendations for directors and filmmakers are to create more balanced and inclusive works. This research is expected to provide insight into Male Gaze in film and gender issues, and encourage filmmakers to be more aware of the impact of gender representation in their work.
