Abstract

Blimbing traditional market is one of the 3 big markets with Class I Standard which plays an important role as the driving wheel of the economy of Malang. However, the existing condition of Blimbing traditional market is currently considered less able to accommodate the economic activities of the community in terms of quantity and quality. It was finally responded by Malang City Government by issuing Malang regional Regulation No.4 of 2011. Where the Malang City Government plans to improve the quality of traditional markets Blimbing, as well as develop Malang Trade Center in the market area Blimbing. A kind of integrated market with a semi-modern concept that collaborates between the traditional market on the lower floor, and the modern market on the top floor. But the view of traditional market traders Blimbing development agenda is not in line with the Malang City Government so that the redesigned efforts were hampered until the writing of this report is made. Therefore, the writing of this report aims to redesign the traditional blimbing market into Malang trade center Blimbing with the hope of solving the problems of the three parties (market traders, private investors, and Malang City Government). The application of contemporary vernacular architecture approach to the redesign of Malang trade center Blimbing is to create architectural solutions to build kinship (friendship) between traders and buyers so that the principle of balance (reciprocity) is more optimal, increasing the accumulation of buyers and a new atmosphere and is expected to increase the rate of regional economic growth for the people of Malang.
