Abstract

Technological developments in the industrial world are currently increasing. Many companies are competing to improve product quality by using materials that are cheap, heavy, light and easy to obtain but have a good level of strength. The materials included in these criteria are composite materials reinforced with natural fibers. The main reason for choosing natural fibers as composite reinforcement is because natural fibers are environmentally friendly, have good mechanical properties and are relatively cheap. One of the natural fibers that can be used as a reinforcing material is apus bamboo fiber which grows widely in Indonesia, however the use of apus bamboo in Indonesia in the industrial sector is still less than optimal. Therefore, this research was carried out in order to determine the tensile strength, bending and SEM test values, and polyester composite materials reinforced with apus bamboo fiber with length variations of 5.10 mm and 15 mm and variations in the composition ratio between resin and bamboo fiber of 4%: 96. %, 6 % : 94 %, 8 % : 92 %, 10 % : 90 %, and 12 % : 88 %. From the research carried out, it can be seen that the highest maximum stress in the tensile test shows the C5 variation with a fiber length fraction of 15 mm and a fiber weight ratio of 12% with a stress value of 17.64 Mpa, while the lowest maximum stress in the tensile test shows the B3 variation with the fiber length. 10 mm and a fiber weight ratio of 8% with a stress value of 13.25 Mpa and for the bending test the highest results were obtained in the A1 variation with a fiber length of 5 mm and a fiber weight ratio of 4% with a stress value of 84.55 Mpa, while the maximum stress was the lowest in the test bending shows the B5 variation with a fiber length of 10 mm and a fiber weight ratio of 12% with a stress value of 58.33 Mpa.
