Abstract

Conflict often occurs in the background of ethnic differences, where ethnic diversity should become a nation's wealth. Conflict is caused by many factors, oneof the strong factors of social identity and prejudice between ethnic groups. The highsocial identity of each ethnic group makes the tendency to look at the other ethnicgroups more negatively, thereby making people more likely to refuse to be led bydifferent ethnic leaders. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationshipbetween social identity with prejudice against different ethnic leaders. This researchwas conducted to 92 students who come from outside Surabaya or outside Java, whoboarding in Nginden Baru 1 to 4 and Nginden 1 to 6 Surabaya, with purposive sampling technique. Data analysis method in this research used Rank Spearman nonparametric correlation analysis with SPSS version 20 program. The result of dataanalysis show hypothesis accepted, r correlation number 0,468 with significantlevel p = 0,000 (p < 0,01), which means there is positive correlation very significantbetween social identity with prejudice against different ethnic leaders. The higherthe social identity, the higher the prejudice against different ethnic leaders and viceversa, the lower the social identity, the lower the prejudices against different ethnicleaders.
