Abstract

Aggressive behavior among Brimob personnel constitutes a critical issue due to the high-risk nature of their duties and continuous exposure to aggressive stimuli in the field. This study aims to examine the mediating role of self-control in the relationship between emotional maturity and aggression stimulus on aggressive behavior among Brimob personnel. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed, involving Brimob personnel selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using scales of aggressive behavior, emotional maturity, aggression stimulus, and self-control, and were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results indicated that emotional maturity had a significant negative effect on aggressive behavior (p < 0.05) and a significant positive effect on self- control (p < 0.05), while self-control showed a significant negative effect on aggressive behavior (p < 0.05). Mediation analysis revealed that self-control partially mediated the relationship between emotional maturity and aggressive behavior (significant indirect effect, p < 0.05). In contrast, aggression stimulus did not show a significant effect on aggressive behavior (p > 0.05) or on self-control (p > 0.05), and no mediating effect was established. These findings highlight the dominant role of internal dispositional factors over situational factors in explaining aggressive behavior among Brimob personnel, and provide theoretical implications for the development of the General Aggression Model as well as practical implications for self-control– based interventions in tactical police units.
