Abstract

Composition variation is the dosage of ingredients in a mixture of a specimen, this greatly influences the results of the casting because each material has its own advantages and disadvantages. . Casting temperature is the temperature determined when casting an alloy after the casting process, this influences the properties and characteristics of an alloy. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of casting temperature on aluminum-copper alloy metal with microstructure and casting methods and to determine the effect of composition variations on aluminum mixed with copper with microstructure and casting methods which can increase the durability of aluminum. The variation in composition referred to is the difference in the dosage of ingredients to produce several castings with certain qualifications. There is no limit to variations in composition in the smelting process, this is because it depends on the purpose of the smelting. In this research, aluminum is the main material that is melted with a small amount of copper. Aluminum with levels of 89%, 92% and 95%. Meanwhile, copper is 5%, 8% and 11%. The aim of this composition variation is to produce aluminum samples with better durability, considering that the required characteristics of copper are compatible with aluminum. In the microstructure test results, the higher the pouring temperature, the clearer the shape of the structure, the shapes tend to be elongated and coincide with each other. The clearest microstructure test results are in the photo of the Al 95%-Cu 5% specimen with a pouring temperature of 1100 oC. This is caused by the gradual cooling temperature, causing the dendrite phase to form perfectly.
