Abstract

National steel production is now progressing rapidly, to develop technology many efforts must be carried out, by producing new works that have high efficiency and economical production costs. Using the powder metallurgy method, this research was carried out to analyze the alloy (iron powder) of iron powder with a mixture of coconut shell carbon (98%:2%) on the value of density and hardness properties. In this case the variations in compaction pressure are 7000 Psi, 8000 Psi and 9000 Psi, and give a holding time of 10 minutes, for sintering temperature is 1000 ºC and variations in holding time for sintering are 30 minutes, 60 minutes and 90 minutes. From the test results, the compaction variable affects the density value, such as the holding time variable of 30 minutes, when the compaction is higher the density value also increases. At a holding time of 60 minutes, the higher the compaction given the hardness value also increases, with a compacting pressure of 7000 Psi, the hardness value increases in line with the length of holding time given.
