Abstract
Corrosion frequently occurs on material surfaces, specifically in low-carbon steel materials. Sandblasting is a more time- and energy-efficient strategy for removing corrosion. Sandblasting is cleaning the surface of a substance with abrasive particles by shooting the particles against the surface and generating an impact to remove rust, paint, salt, oil, and other contaminants. The purpose of sandblasting is also to create a roughness profile on the material’s surface. The research employed low carbon steel ST37, with dimensions of 50 mm x 50 mm x 4 mm and angle variations of 45°, 60° and 90°, and distance variations of 40 cm, 50 cm and 60 cm. The sandblasting results demonstrated that the roughness, thickness, and hardness test on low-carbon steel plate ST37 produced comparative values for each angle and distance variation. The study’s findings indicated that variations in the sandblasting process’s spraying angle and distance resulted in alterations in the surface roughness, thickness and hardness of the tested material. The highest roughness was 91,67 μm at the 90° angle variation and 40 cm distance. Simultaneously, the lowest roughness was 69.67 μm at the 45° angle variation and 60 cm distance. In addition, there is a variance of the 45° angle at the 60 cm distance of 3.913 mm for the highest thickness value. Simultaneously, the lowest thickness value was 3,756 mm at the 90° angle variation and 40 cm distance. Moreover, the highest hardness value was 73.24 HRB at the 90° angle variation distance and 40 cm distance.
