Abstract
Quality of life is defined as an individual's perception of life in the context of a social and value system in which the individual relates to individual goals, standards and concerns. While social support can be interpreted as a form of assistance given to individuals in the form of comfort, attention, appreciation, which is felt by the individual. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and quality of life for parents of mentally retarded children. The research subject used by the researcher is parents who have mentally retarded children. Researchers used the same number of population and samples, namely 60 parental participants. This research uses correlational quantitative research. The data sampling technique in this study used a population study and data analysis using the Spearman correlation test using the SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solution) version 24.0 for windows program to obtain a correlation coefficient value of 0.516 with a significant value (p>0.01). The results showed that the correlation coefficient was significantly positive, the level of social support was positively related to the high and low quality of life in parents, so that the proposed hypothesis was accepted. This shows that if the social support is high then the quality of life is also high, if the social support is low then the quality of life is low. Suggestions for developing parents are expected to improve the quality of life by increasing social support, support from other people such as from extended family, friends, neighbors and other parties.
