Abstract

UD. Tekad Baja Metal Works is a manufacturing industry which is engaged in arco making. This business receives requests in varying amounts every month with a production area of 196m2 and has a total of 8 workers. UD. Steel will operate 6 working days a week. With inter-departmental arrangements that are not in accordance with the flow of production flow, the arco-making process becomes lengthy which causes the productivity of arco-making to be not optimal. This resulted in UD. Determination Baja Metal Works is often not able to meet the demand in each month. In solving this problem, it is necessary to redesign the production layout using the ARC (Activity Relationship Chart) and FTC (From To Chart) methods. The results of this study are in the form of alternative layout proposals, calculation of Material Handling Costs and production capacity generated after the proposal. From the proposed layout, 80% of material handling costs are minimized, material handling transfer distances are also getting shorter with a 79% distance shrinkage percentage, and increasing production capacity by 5%.
