Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between problem focused coping with stress tendencies in students who are working on theses. The subjects of this study were final semester students who were working on a thesis at the psychology faculty of the University of 17 August 1945 with a total of 98 subjects. The research was conducted by distributing questionnaires with purposive sampling. The correlation technique used to determine the relationship between problem focused coping and stress tendencies is the Spearman's Rho technique with non-parametric statistics. The results of the calculation of the data analysis obtained Spearman's rho correlation coefficient of rxy value -0.781 and p = 0.000 with a significant level (p <0.05) meaning that the independent variable (X) Problem focused coping with the dependent variable (Y) the tendency to stress has a very strong relationship. significant. This means that there is a very significant negative relationship between the problem focused coping variable and the stress tendency variable, meaning that the lower the problem focused coping, the higher the tendency. On the other hand, the higher the problem focused coping, the lower the stress tendency. So, the hypothesis proposed in this study is accepted. The results of R Squared show that problem focused coping has an effect of 59.3% on the tendency of stress in students who are working on thesis.
