Abstract
This research applies the semantic approach and focus on the element of the song lyrics such as the theme and figurative language to analyse the data in order to understand the theme and how it is conveyed in Michael Jackson’s songs to get a clear defenition and understand of the songs lyric. The source of data in this research is the five songs of Michael Jackson’s: Earth Song, Heal the World, Cry, We are the World, and We are Here to Change the World. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. After analysing and discussing it is found that the theme of Michael Jackson’s songs is humans beings should keep the earth to be a better place for living and it is conveyed through five kinds of figurative language that are used in the five songs of Michael Jackson. There are 13 metaphor, 3 personification, 12 hyperbole, 3 irony and 4 paradox.
