Abstract
This study aims to identify waste in the sandal production process and improve the balance of the production flow using the Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Rank Positional Weight (RPW) methods. The VSM method is used to map the production process flow and identify value-added and non-valueadded activities, while the RPW method is used to balance the distribution of work elements at each workstation. The results of the waste identification revealed waste in the form of transportation, waiting, and motion. Based on Process Activity Mapping (PAM), Value-Added (VA) activities totaled 26.84 minutes, or 87.37%, and Necessary Non-Value-Added (NNVA) activities totaled 3.89 minutes, or 12.63%. The results of applying the RPW method showed an improvement in the balance of the production line, as evidenced by a reduction in the number of workstations from 7 to 4. In addition, the Line Efficiency (LE) increased from 39.42% to 87.33%, the Balance Delay (BD) decreased from 60.58% to 12.67%, and the Smoothness Index (SI) decreased from 21.71 to 3.64. The improvement in production performance was also reflected in an increase in production output from 93,212 units per month to 117,984 units per month. Meanwhile, the results of Future State Mapping showed improvements in the production process flow through a reduction in lead time from 6.44 minutes to 3.53 minutes and an increase in the Value Added Ratio (VAR) from 1.10% to 2.07%. The research results show that the application of the VSM and RPW methods is effective in reducing waste, improving the balance of the production flow, and increasing the overall productivity and efficiency of the production process.
