Abstract
This study analyzes ship navigation system downtime patterns, identifies influencing factors, and formulates an optimal preventive maintenance strategy to improve operational efficiency. The case study was conducted at PT Pawitra Daya Teknik using historical data from 113 work orders from 11 vessels for the period December 2025–February 2026. The methods used included descriptive analysis, calculations of MTTR, MTBF, availability, statistical distribution tests, exponential reliability functions, age-replacement models, and cost comparisons between reactive and preventive scenarios. The results showed that Radar and GPS were the most critical systems, with software failures being the primary cause. Logistics vessels had the highest downtime per vessel. The most influential factors were short MTBF and long MTTR. The optimal preventive maintenance interval was formulated differently: critical systems were maintained more frequently, and reliable systems were maintained less frequently. This strategy successfully reduced annual downtime, increased availability, and generated operational cost savings of approximately IDR 409 million per year. In conclusion, the preventive maintenance strategy tailored to the system's characteristics proved to be technically and economically optimal.
