Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the content of the Instagram account @serdadumerahputih_1945 concerning football supporter riots in Indonesia. The study is based on the growing role of social media, particularly Instagram, as a platform that not only distributes information but also shapes public opinion and social representation. The account @serdadumerahputih_1945 was selected because it actively discusses Indonesian football issues, including supporter dynamics, stadium security, match-related conflicts, and various events related to supporter riots. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative research type and content analysis method. The observation units in this study are Instagram posts from @serdadumerahputih_1945 related to football supporter riots in Indonesia within the period of August 2025 to May 2026. The units of analysis include captions, words or sentences, photos, videos, symbols, hashtags, and visual narratives contained in the posts. The data were collected through documentation and non-participant observation. The data analysis was conducted using Krippendorff’s content analysis stages, namely unitizing, sampling, recording or coding, reducing, inferring, and narrating. The findings show that the content of the Instagram account @serdadumerahputih_1945 regarding football supporter riots in Indonesia contains informative, emotional, critical, and symbolic messages. Based on the nine analyzed posts, riots are not only represented as acts of disorder but also as expressions of disappointment, criticism of referee decisions, protests against club management, the impact of away supporter restrictions, and signs of broader problems in football governance. In the semantic category, the study found the use of words such as “disappointment,” “disappointed,” “raging,” and “tense.” In the pragmatic category, captions often connect riots with causes and consequences, such as match defeats, alleged unfair referee decisions, away supporter policies, and possible disciplinary sanctions. Meanwhile, in the sign-vehicle category, visuals such as crowds, stadium situations, tire-burning actions, and actions against referees strengthen the representation of riots as social events affecting security and the image of Indonesian football. Therefore, football-related Instagram accounts can be understood as digital communication spaces that play a role in shaping public perception of football supporter riots in Indonesia. This research aims to identify and describe the content of the Instagram account @serdadumerahputih_1945 related to football supporter riots in Indonesia. The study is grounded in the increasing role of social media, particularly Instagram, as a space for information distribution, opinion formation, and the construction of social reality in football issues. The account @serdadumerahputih_1945 was selected because it actively discusses Indonesian football, including supporter dynamics, match conflicts, stadium security, supporter policies, and riot-related events within national football competitions. This research applies a qualitative approach with a descriptive qualitative research type and content analysis method. The observation units are Instagram posts from @serdadumerahputih_1945 related to football supporter riots in Indonesia from August 2025 to May 2026. The research sample consists of nine posts analyzed through captions, words or sentences, photos, videos, symbols, hashtags, and visual narratives. The data were collected through documentation and non participant observation. Data analysis was conducted using Krippendorff’s content analysis stages, namely unitizing, sampling, recording or coding, reducing, inferring, and narrating, while Peter L. Berger’s Social Construction Theory was used as the theoretical basis for interpreting the formation of meaning in the content. The findings show that the posts of @serdadumerahputih_1945 represent supporter riots through three main categories: semantic content, pragmatic content, and sign-vehicle content. In the semantic content, riots are framed through diction emphasizing disappointment and collective emotion, such as “outburst of disappointment,” “disappointed,” “raging,” “defeat,” “failed to advance,” “a series of defeats,” and “tense.” In the pragmatic content, captions connect riots with broader causes and consequences, such as alleged unfair referee decisions, club failures, poor match results, away supporter restrictions, potential Disciplinary Committee sanctions, and disappointment toward club management. In the sign vehicle content, visuals such as crowds, stadium situations, smoke, fire, burning vehicles, tire-burning actions, actions against referees, and tense situations strengthen the meaning of riots as social events related to stadium security, supporter governance, and the image of Indonesian football. Therefore, the Instagram account @serdadumerahputih_1945 does not merely deliver information about supporter riots, but also shapes how audiences may understand riots as social communicative phenomena containing disappointment, criticism, protest, and broader problems in football governance.
