Abstract

Psychological well-being is a psychological condition that reflects an individual's abilities characterized by positive self-acceptance, the ability to manage stress, and having a clear life purpose. However, in college students in the digital era, psychological well-being has not developed optimally, so this study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of social media use and self- compassion with psychological well-being in college students. The method used in this study is a quantitative correlational one involving 136 active undergraduate students of the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya as a sample. The sampling technique used is quota sampling. The data analysis technique used is multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that the intensity of social media use and self-compassion show a significant positive influence on psychological well- being. Conversely, the intensity of social media use shows a negative relationship with psychological well-being, which means that increasing the intensity of social media use tends to be followed by a decrease in psychological well-being. Furthermore, the analysis of self-compassion with psychological well-being has a positive and significant influence, this shows that students who have a self- compassionate attitude towards themselves tend to be more able to accept their shortcomings, manage academic pressure, and face problems in a more adaptive way, thus supporting the achievement of more optimal psychological well-being.
