Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and social support and the tendency to experience academic stress among out-of-town students in Surabaya. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study subjects were 110 out-of-town students studying at universities in Surabaya and were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments used were the academic stress tendency scale, the self-efficacy scale, and the social support scale. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that self-efficacy and social support simultaneously influenced the tendency to experience academic stress, with R = 0.783 and F = 84.586, with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.01). Partially, self-efficacy had a significant negative relationship with the tendency to experience academic stress, while social support had no significant relationship with the tendency to experience academic stress.
