Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of verbal aggression among adolescents who play online games. The study aims to examine the relationship between peer conformity and self-esteem with verbal aggression in adolescent online game users. The participants consisted of 108 adolescents aged 15 to 19 years who were online game players. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale instruments, including a peer conformity scale, a self-esteem scale, and a verbal aggression scale. The data analysis technique employed was Spearman’s Rho correlation test, as the data did not meet the linearity assumption required for multiple regression analysis. The results revealed a significant negative relationship between peer conformity and verbal aggression, with r = –0.225 and p = 0.019 (p < 0.05). Additionally, a highly significant negative relationship was found between self-esteem and verbal aggression, with r = –0.835 and p = 0,000 ( p < 0.001).
