Abstract

Fresh graduates are individuals who have completed higher education and are in a transitional phase toward entering the workforce. Despite having academic knowledge and skills, many fresh graduates face significant challenges in securing employment due to intense competition and limited work experience. This situation often creates psychological pressure affecting their self-confidence and optimism levels. This study aims to examine the relationship between social support and self-confidence with the level of optimism among S1 fresh graduates seeking jobs in Surabaya City. A quantitative approach was employed involving 335 participants who are university graduates. Data analysis used the non-parametric Spearman’s Rho correlation test due to violations of normality and linearity assumptions. The results show a positive and significant relationship between social support and optimism (r = 0.877; p < 0.05), as well as between self-confidence and optimism (r = 0.901; p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the higher the levels of social support and self-confidence received by fresh graduates, the higher their optimism in facing job search challenges. This research is expected to contribute to the development of psychological interventions aimed at enhancing the mental readiness of fresh graduates during their transition to the workforce.
