Abstract

Generation Z is currently faced with a variety of challenges in the increasingly rapid digital era, ranging from academic, social and career pressures. Therefore, gen Z needs hardiness as their ability to deal with these various problems. There are two factors that can influence hardiness in gen Z, namely religiosity which is the basis for providing emotional support in the spiritual and moral realms, and optimism which provides an encouragement to think positively about future results. This study aims to determine the relationship between religiosity and optimism with hardiness in gen Z which is useful to add insight and awareness of the importance of hardiness. This study used a correlational method, and the sample consisted of 220 gen Z respondents aged 18-25 years old who were in Surabaya from the provisions of the accidental sampling technique. Data collection used three psychological scales, religiosity, optimism and hardiness scales. Data analysis using the help of SPSS version 25, using 3 analysis techniques, ranging from descriptive analysis, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive relationship between religiosity and optimism with hardiness in gen Z (R2=0.248, P=0.00<0.05). So it can be concluded that the higher the level of religiosity and optimism owned by gen Z, the higher the hardiness. The lower the level of religiosity and optimism owned by gen Z, the lower the hardiness.
