Abstract

The coastal community of Pantai Trisik is economically prosperous, as evidenced by well-built houses, and nearly every household owning a car. The majority of residents in the coastal area of Pantai Trisik make a living as farmers. This research aims to explore the authentic meaning of happiness among farmers in the coastal area of Pantai Trisik, Kulon Progo. It employs a qualitative research design with a phenomenology approach. The subjects of this study are three native farmers who have been residing in the coastal area of Pantai Trisik for approximately 30 years. The data collection method involves in-depth interviews that refer to the authentic happiness aspects outlined by Seligman (2002) and observations of the three subjects. The research utilizes the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IРА) technique for data analysis. The results of this study indicate that the authentic meaning of happiness for subject I is derived from witnessing the happiness of their children, the prosperity of the farming group, and overcoming poverty. Subjects 2 and 3 interpret authentic happiness as achieving a balance between self-satisfaction and positive relationships with others. In conclusion, according to the three research subjects and considering the aspects proposed hy Seligman (2002), the authentic meaning of happiness is when life feels peaceful, healthy, and prosperous.
