Abstract

Villages are the smallest units in the government structure in Indonesia, playing an important role in managing local resources and development. Law Number 6 of 2014 states that the village government is responsible for managing government programs and the interests of local communities, led by the village head. BUMDes (Village- Owned Enterprises) are companies owned and operated by village communities to improve economic and social welfare. BUMDes is managed by the village government by involving the community in planning, implementation and monitoring. The aim is to advance the village economy, reduce economic disparities and strengthen the local economy. The success of BUMDes really depends on the director's role as manager. Thisresearch will explore the role of the BUMDes director in the management and development of BUMDes. This research explores the role of BUMDes directors in managing BUMDes using Alif's theory in Nurdin (2014) with four indicators: regulator, dynamist, facilitator and catalyst. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, which aims to produce descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and behavior observed from the phenomena that occur. Research on the management of eMHa Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) in Melirang Village, Bungah District, Gresik Regency, shows that the role of the BUMDes director is still less than optimal. Some of the problems identified include a lack of enforcement of the role as a regulator in terms of monitoring the distribution of loan funds, a lack of training or guidance to BUMDes managers, as well as a lack of outreach to the community regarding the objectives of BUMDes and the loan funds provided.
