Abstract

Dramaturgy is a concept introduced by Erving Goffman in his approach using theatrical analogy to describe now individuals interact and present themselves in everyday life. Goffman stated that social life can be understood as a series of performances in which individuals play the role of actors on stage. According to him, everyone has two areas: the front stage and the back stage. The researcher conducted a study on the Dramaturgy of Finstagram 3 Cosplayer in Real Life. The purpose of this study is to find out how the front stage (Finstagram) and back stage (Real Life) 3 cosplayers in the city of Surabaya. This study uses a qualitative method using a phenomenological approach. Data collection was carried out through observation and interviews. The results of the study found that utilizing the front stage to meet their social interaction and social validation needs, displaying a more cheerful, interesting, and appropriate version of themselves to the character they played. Backstage they tend to choose to express themselves in more filtered or limited ways, such as choosing not to show their face directly in the photos they share.
