Abstract

The most suitable type of wind turbine applied on the island of Java, especially inSurabaya, is the vertical shaft type savonius type v windmill. It is because thisvertical shaft windmill is very suitable to be applied to areas with low wind speeds.Savonius wind turbine is one type of vertical axis turbine. It easily rotates in lowwind speed conditions and has good self-starting and relatively high torque. Thepurpose of this study was to determine the effect of fin gap, fin tilt angle and bladegap were taken on the performance of the savonius type V wind turbine. From theresults of the analysis above variations on turbine blades that have maximumperformance obtained torque of 0.063 Nm, actual power 0.8133 W and powercoefficient of 84.42%. It found in gap 3 mm fin, slot gap a2, b2 (5mm, 2.5mm ) andfin slope angle 35 ° with wind speed 1.7 m / s. The percentage decrease in eachvariation be caused the kinetic energy of the wind cannot be absorbed either by theturbine blades, and the wind is not well directed to the blade, and there is too muchturbulence.
