Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the failure of the existing copper roll tool. Failure often occurs in the pen roll component number 2. Furthermore, the analysis will be used to redesign the pen roll number 2 part of the copper roller so that it has a higher life cycle. The redesign process will begin by sketching the copper roll tool based on the dimensions of the sample provided, from the results of the sketch 2D and 3D CAD modeling will be made using Autodesk AutoCad and Autodesk Inventor software to adjust the dimensions of the tool when assembled. After the results are appropriate, the next process is to analyze the design of the existing tool using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and Soderberg's theory of failure. FEM analysis will be carried out using Ansys software. Followed by making a new tool design and then doing FEM analysis. Furthermore, the results of the life cycle analysis of the two designs are compared. Data analysis of the original design of the tool and the design of the new tool that has been compared will show which result is better. From this study, it was concluded that the redesign of pen roll number 2 in the form of profiles, dimensions, and materials managed to have a higher life cycle than the original tool design, so this new design will be used as a reference for making new tools.
