Abstract

CV Bintang Jaya is a plastic manufacturing company that produces various household products, including cosmetic containers and skincare containers. Based on demand data in 2025, these two products had high demand and therefore required an efficient production process to meet customer orders on time. The main problem identified in the production process was the high production lead time caused by several waste activities, such as excessive inventory, waiting time during the injection machine changeover process, manual material handling, and an unbalanced process flow between body and lid components. This study aims to identify the types of waste, analyze the main root causes, and propose improvements to reduce production lead time. The method used in this research is Lean Manufacturing with Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Process Activity Mapping (PAM), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Future State Mapping (FSM). Data were collected through field observations, interviews, and work measurement using a stopwatch time study. The results show that the dominant wastes were inventory, waiting, transportation, and motion. The proposed improvements include implementing the FIFO system, reducing raw material inventory, standardizing the changeover process, improving material flow, and applying overtime in bottleneck areas. After the proposed improvements, the production lead time of cosmetic containers decreased from 44,747.6 minutes to 21,688.6 minutes, while the production lead time of skincare containers decreased from 44,750.9 minutes to 21,685.4 minutes.
