Abstract
Indonesia faces environmental challenges due to increasing textile waste, particularly cotton fabric, which is often disposed of or burned, causing pollution. Meanwhile, pavement damage due to water ponding in tropical regions encourages the use of porous asphalt, although its low stability requires alternative fillers such as cotton ash waste. This research employed the Marshall method based on the Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA, 2004) and the Indonesian Bina Marga Specification (2018) Revision 2. The variations of cotton ash waste filler used were 0%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7%, and 1%, with an optimum asphalt content (OAC) of 4.8%. The evaluated parameters included Marshall characteristics (stability, flow, Marshall Quotient, and Void in Mix/VIM) and permeability. Laboratory testing was conducted to analyze the effect of waste addition on the performance of porous asphalt mixtures. The results indicate that the 1% variation of cotton ash waste filler is the optimum mixture, as it satisfies all requirements specified by AAPA (2004) and Bina Marga (2018) Revision 2. At this condition, the mixture produced a VIM of 23.0%, stability of 816 kg, flow of 2.0 mm, Marshall Quotient of 408 kg/mm, and permeability of 0.20 cm/s, demonstrating a balance between structural strength and drainage capability. Thus, cotton fabric ash waste has strong potential as an alternative filler material that not only enhances the performance of porous asphalt but also contributes to sustainable textile waste management.
