Abstract

This research aims to examine the relationship between assertivity and coping strategies towards psychological well-being in teenagers who have experienced violence in dating (KDP) in Surabaya. Based on data obtained from various sources, including Ybarra research (2022), it was found that around 19% of teenagers experienced sexual or physical violence while dating, and many of them also experienced psychological violence. This study involved respondents with a minimum education level of SMA/SMK, as well as students as the highest level, to understand how education and social environment affect assertive behavior and coping in dealing with violent situations. In this context, problem focused coping that is used by individuals in dealing with stress and problems that arise due to violence in dating becomes the main focus. This research also examines how age, education, and personality type factors contribute to the development of assertive behavior and individual ability to overcome problems. In addition, this study provides advice for research subjects and subsequent researchers to further delve into the aspects that have not been revealed in this study, as well as the importance of support from the surrounding environment in forming more positive behavior. The results of this research are expected to provide a deeper insight into the dynamics of violence in dating and effective problem focused coping, as well as encouraging prevention efforts and better handling of this problem among teenagers. Thus, this research contributes to the development of policies and programs that aim to increase awareness and education about violence in relationships among the young generation.
