Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social anxiety and suicidal ideation among adolescents in Surabaya. This research employed a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The participant selection technique used was accidental sampling, involving 386 adolescents in Surabaya. The instruments used in this study were the Suicide Ideation Scale (SIS) and a social anxiety scale. The results showed a significant positive relationship between social anxiety and suicidal ideation (rxy = 0.274) with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between social anxiety and suicidal ideation among adolescents in Surabaya. This indicates that higher levels of social anxiety are associated with higher levels of suicidal ideation among adolescents in Surabaya. Adolescents are encouraged to reduce their fear of negative evaluation, increase their courage in facing social situations, and develop social skills. These steps are expected to help reduce social anxiety.
