Abstract

Adolescence is a developmental stage marked by intense psychological and social dynamics, making individuals vulnerable to deviant behaviors such as juvenile delinquency. This study aims to examine the relationship between parental control and peer conformity with juvenile delinquency in coastal adolescents. The coastal area was chosen due to its distinct socio economic and cultural characteristics, which may influence adolescent behavioral patterns. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to 129 school-aged adolescents residing in the coastal area of Tlocor Beach, Sidoarjo. The results of multiple regression analysis revealed that parental control and peer conformity jointly have a significant relationship with juvenile delinquency (F = 28.507; p < 0.05). However, parental control was not found to have a significant individual effect (p > 0.05), while peer conformity showed a significant positive relationship with juvenile delinquency (r = 0.399; p < 0.05). These findings suggest that a higher level of peer conformity increases the likelihood of adolescents engaging in delinquent behavior. The study highlights the crucial role of peer influence in shaping adolescent behavior and underscores the need for preventive strategies that address social dynamics among peers, particularly in coastal communities.
