Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between academic self-efficacy and peer conformity with academic procrastination among senior high school students. The population consisted of all students at “X” Senior High School in Krian, totaling 1,443 students. A total of 305 students were selected as participants using a stratified random sampling technique. The research instruments included an academic procrastination scale based on the theory of McCloskey and Scielzo (2015), an academic self-efficacy scale based on Bandura’s theory (1997), and a peer conformity scale based on Taylor’s theory (2009). The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression assisted by SPSS version 25. The analysis results showed a significant simultaneous relationship between academic self-efficacy and peer conformity with academic procrastination (F = 20.616; p = 0.000 < 0.05). Partially, academic self efficacy had a positive and significant influence on academic procrastination (p < 0.05), indicating that the second hypothesis was rejected. Meanwhile, peer conformity had a positive and significant influence on academic procrastination (p < 0.05), thus supporting the third hypothesis. Based on these findings, it is recommended that students to be more selective in responding to peer influence, in order to minimize academic procrastination behavior.
