Abstract

This research examines sexism in the food and beverage industry, focusing on the coffee shop Kopimana27 in Tebet. This research uses a phenomenological approach, combining primary and secondary data sources. Data was obtained through collection techniques such as interviews and observation. This study adopts a qualitative research method and aims to provide an in-depth description of gender-based discrimination patterns that influence workplace dynamics, including recruitment processes, task distribution, and interactions with customers. Standpoint theory serves as the primary framework for understanding the experiences of women working as baristas within a patriarchal social structure. The findings reveal that beauty standards are a key criterion in the recruitment of female baristas to enhance business appeal, along with policies that restrict their freedom, such as prohibiting night shifts. The study also found that women frequently face negative stereotypes and sexist behaviors from customers, impacting their emotional and professional well-being. These findings highlight that workplace sexism not only harms individuals but also reflects the entrenched structural injustices within the industry’s work culture. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for the development of more inclusive and equitable policies, fostering a work environment that supports diversity and gender equality.
