Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of communication conducted by the Baubau City Communication and Information Office in the anti-hoax movement among society. In the current digital era, the spread of false information or hoaxes poses a significant challenge for communities. Therefore, effective communication strategies are essential in addressing this issue. The research methodology employed is qualitative, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews with key informants, namely officials from the Communication and Information Office, as well as community members as respondents. Interviews were conducted to explore information regarding communication strategies implemented, the execution of educational programs, and their impact on the public's awareness of hoaxes. The results of the study indicate that the Baubau City Communication and Information Office has educated the public primarily through social media, utilizing digital platforms as a means to disseminate accurate information and combat hoax news. Respondents involved in the research showed an increased awareness of the importance of fact-checking the information they receive. However, despite the effectiveness of this digital communication strategy, there remains a need for strengthening efforts through face-to-face socialization, which can reinforce the bond between the Communication and Information Office and the community. This study is expected to contribute positively to the development of anti-hoax communication strategies and to enhance media literacy among the public.
