Abstract

Social media continues to be a popular place for various groups, especially today's students. Because online interaction is much easier to do than face-to-face interaction, social media can have a big impact, such as reducing the level of skills to interact directly, which can cause addiction which results in students neglecting their academic work. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between social anxiety and social media addiction with self-esteem as a mediating variable. This research uses quantitative methods with a population of 669 students and a sample size of 236 students. The data collection technique in this research uses purposive sampling. The results of this study show that there is a positive indirect relationship between social anxiety and social media addiction with self esteem as a mediator variable (partial mediation) with a specific indirect effects value of 3.940 (T statistic > 1.96) and a p value = 0.000 (p<0.05).
