Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between positive thinking and self-efficacy with public speaking anxiety among first-year students at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya. Public speaking anxiety is a common challenge faced by students, characterized by physical symptoms such as trembling and rapid heartbeat, as well as psychological symptoms like nervousness and excessive fear. The study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The sample consisted of 101 first year students selected through random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 2.7. The results of multiple regression analysis revealed a significant negative relationship between positive thinking and self-efficacy simultaneously with public speaking anxiety (F = 10.108, significance 0.000 < 0.05). These findings suggest that the higher the levels of positive thinking and self-efficacy, the lower the levels of public speaking anxiety experienced by students. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for developing interventions to help students overcome public speaking anxiety.
