Abstract

Body Dysmorphic Disorder Tendency is a condition where individuals always feel they have a "flaw" in their body that the defect may be insignificant for people. One of the causes of individuals with BDD tendencies is low Self Acceptance so that individuals often compare themselves to others in terms of appearance. Moreover, currently individuals find it easier to compare themselves on social media. This study aims to determine the relationship between Self Acceptance and Body Dysmorphic Disorder Tendency mediated by the Intensity of Social Media Use. Participants in this study were 333 individual content creators using accidental sampling techniques. The quantitative analysis method used path analysis with the help of Smart PLS version 4.1.0.9. The results of the study showed a significant relationship with a negative direction between Self Acceptance and BDD Tendency mediated by the Intensity of Social Media Use with a P value = 0.015 (P <0.05) and a total indirect effects of - 0.051. meaning the higher the self-acceptance, the lower the tendency of BDD and the intensity of social media use, and vice versa, the lower the self-acceptance, the higher the tendency of BDD and the intensity of social media use. Individuals are expected to understand that every human being has their own characteristics so there is no need to compare themselves with others on social media.
