Abstract

Film is one of the tools for mass media to convey messages to the public and serve as a means of entertainment or education. Documentary films are interesting because their composition can originate from true stories, political situations, and diverse cultures, and are based on real events that then become a storyline according to the facts. In the world of sports and new media, the show titled Drive to Survive, produced by Netflix to introduce the sport of Formula 1, falls under the docudrama genre and presents various types of storylines. Drive to Survive successfully attracted new fans, especially in the United States, but some narrative constructions when depicting rivalries among drivers led several Formula 1 drivers to speak out about the image portrayed regarding the rivalries that occurred. This research was conducted to determine whether there is an influence between the portrayal of competition in Drive to Survive and the image of drivers among fans on the X account @F1Fess. The theories used are behaviorism theory and stimulus-response (S-R) theory. The method used in this research is explanatory quantitative by distributing questionnaires to 100 fans using the Slovin formula. The results of the simple regression analysis show a positive coefficient value of 0.422, meaning the Influence of Exposure To Rivalry Shows (X) on Driver Image (Y) reaches 42.2%. In the Pearson correlation test, the correlation value obtained for the variable Influence of Exposure To Rivalry Shows (X) against the variable Driver Image (Y) is 0.544.
