Abstract

Smartphones seem to be a necessity for modern society, especially for students. The smartphone used not only provides benefits but also simultaneously has a negative impact if not used wisely. One of the negative impacts is phubbing. Phubing is the behavior of individuals ignoring the person they are talking to because they choose to focus on their smartphone during direct interaction. This phubbing behavior is related to a person's mental health, whether they realize it or not, one of which is feelings of loneliness. This research aims to determine the relationship between loneliness and phubbing behavior in high school students Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlation type of research. The population in this study were class XI students of Dr. Soetomo Surabaya as many as 254 students, while the sample in this study was 146 which was determined through a quota sampling technique by drawing lots. This research data colletion method uses a questionnaire. The data analysis technique in this research used the product moment test, which obtained a correlation value of 0.266 with a significance level of 0.001 (p < 0.05). it can be concluded that the results of this study show that there is a relationship between loneliness and phubbing behavior.
