Abstract

The role of the coaches and athletes is very important in increasing athletes' achievement motivation. One of the ways trainers do this is to carry out two-way communication in building relationships or what is called interpersonal communication. This research aims to find out how the coach's interpersonal communication with FIFA Badminton Club Sidoarjo athletes builds achievement motivation. The researcher used the theory used in this research, the theory of Joseph DeVito, with a humanistic aspect approach, namely openness, empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude, and equality. The research conducted was descriptive qualitative in nature. Data collection techniques in this research are interviews, observation, documentation. The results of this research are that five aspects of a humanistic approach or five positive attitudes play a good role, the strongest aspect is a supportive attitude, while what needs to be improved is an attitude of openness between athletes and coaches.
