Abstract
Women are often in less favorable conditions as a consequence of the patriarchal culture that still persists today in Indonesian society. Even in films, women are used as objects of exploitation, which is very clear. The focus of the research objective was to reveal the representation of women's struggles in the kretek girl series. Because women's struggle to this day must still continue. Even though we live in an era of globalization, Indonesian women still experience gender discrimination. The analysis in this research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method which is considered qualitative research. The results of this research show that the women's struggles in the Kretek Girl Series are represented through scenes of a woman who always makes efforts to achieve her dreams. This effort was seen as a woman's struggle because at that time she was also fighting against gender stereotypes that shackled her freedom as a woman. Women's position is often considered weak, so they are limited in their right to think and express their opinions to determine their own future and are regulated to accept everything, both in the domestic and public sectors.
