Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the communication patterns applied by parents towards children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) at the Children's Growth and Development Clinic at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya. ADHD is a developmental disorder that impacts a child's ability to focus attention, control impulses, and manage motor activity. Effective communication patterns between parents and children with ADHD are very important to support the child's development and well-being. The research method used was a qualitative approach with in-depth interview techniques with parents of children with ADHD who were undergoing treatment at the Child Growth and Development Clinic. The data obtained was analyzed using the thematic analysis method to identify the main themes related to the communication patterns implemented. The research results show that parents' communication patterns towards ADHD children at the Children's Growth and Development Clinic at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya include several main strategies: using simple and clear language, providing instructions in stages, as well as using non-verbal communication such as facial expressions and body movements. Parents also tend to use praise and rewards to reinforce positive behavior and avoid physical punishment which can worsen ADHD symptoms. In conclusion, effective communication patterns between parents and ADHD children at Bhayangkara Hospital Surabaya include the use of specific and adaptive communication techniques to meet the unique needs of ADHD children. Appropriate communication interventions can help reduce behavioral problems and improve the quality of interactions between parents and children.
