Abstract

This research aims to examine how peer group communication among students at SMP Negeri 48 Surabaya enhances motivation and interest in learning. The researcher employed a qualitative approach, specifically descriptive qualitative research, guided by George Herbert Mead's theory of symbolic interactionism. Data collection involved interviews with several informants, namely students from SMP Negeri 48 Surabaya. Additionally, observations and documentation were utilized to complement the data gathered by the researcher.Based on the collected data, the study found that effective communication within peer groups is instrumental in boosting students' motivation to learn. Peer groups serve as platforms for interaction where students express feelings, share concerns, and help each other solve problems, often providing verbal advice. These findings underscore the importance of positive social interactions and support among peers and students in creating a stimulating and motivating learning environment. Furthermore, factors such as trust, mutual understanding, and emotional support within peer groups were identified as key elements that strengthen communication within these groups.Therefore, it is crucial to consider the role and management of communication within peer groups at schools as a strategy to enhance students' motivation and interest in learning.
